Did you know that even just visualising a hug is enough to give you the same rush of oxytocin as a real hug? Imagining yourself being hugged is a good technique against anxiety, as oxytocin (sometimes called the "neuropeptide of trust") instantly reverses the effects of the fight-or-flight response. Smiley

Therefore I'd propose a suggestion: how about we use this thread as a sort of "sending hugs and love" thread... on a regular-ish basis we put up pictures of hugs and visualise hugging each other. Very Happy

Agreed, i have been calmed during Anxiety on a few occassions by a hug, it most definitely works, i wonder sometimes if it has to do with the feeling of safety when we were younger or something aswell as the chemical changes it produces.

also with Anxiety, the lovely Lunar gave me a link before about the hands and how holding certain fingers relieves different emotions.... it works! so maybe she could post the link Smiley

I have a vague memory that you once mentioned this... it doesn't make me less surprised though. I tear up very easily... I didn't in the past, but somehow as I get older I cry more. Wink

You're lucky. Smiley

No matter what the health benefits are, I tend to end up with a headache after a proper session of crying.

I read the start of that article and it made me so happy Very Happy

On Monday night I witnessed the aftermath of a terrible tragic accident near my work when I went to get food on a day off and when I walked out a fire truck was parked the road blocking the view and I just knew someone had died I walked the other way and called a guy who friend zoned me months ago and I ended up at his apartment for hugs and he just stood outside for like an hour hugging me tight before we ended upstairs because he was sleepy.

So hugs really do help!!! For the first time in a long time i felt better in his arms and I know I helped him as well.

i've always found something therapeutic about tree's though, i havent tried hugging them but if i'm really low i always go to the forest walk and have a sit down and watch the birds flitting about the tree's

I love nature in general, I know it must be so lovely and green in Wales.

One of my favourite stories about tree hugging: Aram Khachaturian (who wrote the famous Sabre Dance) was attending a badly played [and ill-received] premier performance of one of his symphonies (I think the first one, by memory) and he went outside, hugged a birch tree and cried. Sad

I love the story though because it shows how sensitive and connected to nature Khachaturian was. I love you

I was gonna come here and say how if you don't have a person to hug you can always cuddle or snuggle a pet! Or heck even a stuffed animal. Lol. Hugs are powerful!
