Mental Discipline Empty Mental Discipline

Post by lunareclipse Wed Oct 21, 2015 10:01 pm

***Mind over matter**Mind over ego**Mind over emotions***

If it is so much easier to have tons of discipline in our work matters, studies and every day habits, then why does it seem so much harder to have mental discipline?

Why do we get sucked into dramas and forget our power so easily? Even if we think beforehand or after the situation, it's so easy to see what the right thing to say or do would be but in the real life situation emotions take over and you react the old "wrong" way.

I know all about the Hicks emotional scale and it works at the moment, but 2 minutes later I'm back thinking negative things about the same issue I just crawled out of.
If we can spend SO much time on theory, reading about it over and over again, discussing it over and over again, then why do we not spend the same amount of time practicing it, improving our lives and so on?
If we know that we should not give any attention to the negative and all the attention to what we want to see, then why is that seemingly so easy to do thing so hard to follow and always gets procrastinated on?

One of the best quotes I ever read (can't remember the author) was that most people are not living, they are just planning to live.

So, how is your mental discipline and what tips do you have on developing a good mental ...ermm.. order Very Happy

Because we're emotional creatures i guess, we've been conditioned and brought up to have feelings on everything.

For me i try to follow some basic rules for myself

dont react, take a step back then respond to a situation

own your feelings, its your choice to feel that way, if something doesnt go your way and you get upset, thats your responsibility, you have a choice to be upset or offended.

the way other people behave is none of my business, so just focus on what i'm doing and saying and how i'm behaving.

oh and mindfullness... do that shit everyday! live in the here and now, if its not having an effect on this exact moment in time then you're worrying about the past of the future, which isnt there.

I agree, it's one thing to have an understanding of all of the things we discuss it's another matter to actually apply them consistently.

I wouldn't add that to the list of things that get us frustrated. I think a lot of times after becoming aware of LoA people get frustrated because they feel like they have to be happy beams of sunshine every minute of every hour and if they are not then they are going to attract bad things.

The very fact that we are imperfect (even at applying anything we know...) is in fact perfectly human.

I know that most people think of LoA in terms of "methods" and "techniques" but I don't view things that way. I follow (or more exactly TRY to follow) Bashar's philosophy of following your joy. Of course I don't always manage to do that tho.

I think the best thing to remember is if you don't like the show that's going on in your mind, then all you have to do is change the channel. If you are getting caught up in negative thoughts I try to stop, remember Bashar's advice, and figure out what at that very moment could I do that would bring me the most joy?

I like this approach so much more than feeling like I have to visualize or use any "method" to get what I want, or that I actually have to be "disciplined" about anything. (Just the word "discipline" sounds too harsh to me.) I'm not "disciplined", I'm actually indulging myself by doing things that bring me joy! And as a result you end up maintaining a high vibration that brings you all of the stuff you want. That's all you have to do. Your higher mind takes care of the rest.

Hmm. Mental discipline. Like kazoo, I have a bit of an aversion to the word discipline, but what it usually means in this context is the deliberate focusing...and that's not something we are responsible for doing, but are free to do... which makes it much easier to do and it's more playful and we see it in terms of following our joy, because that's when we are more malleable (as Bashar said).

Why do we spend more time discussing than applying? Because we are not seeing it playfully enough to be malleable enough to easily focus deliberately. We take things so gosh darn seriously. We were disciplined to do that by society, and now we're prone to lower vibes with guilt when we want to let ourselves see things as fun and playful.

yes i think we've had it planted in us by society, that you have to focus on this that or the other rather than just relaxing and enjoying or doing what you like

its all work work work, or worry worry worry these days isnt it.

or rather you cant be happy unless you've worked hard or struggled in some way first.

I like to call mind training and since I love workouts ;-)... I just see it as a muscle that needs some training once in a while.

In the past negativity could last days. I could dwell in it literally. These days I notice that the negativity is only there for short periods of time. It's because I let them be, knowing that all will be well in the end. I just acknowledge the fact that I am not so positive about something and I let it be, but at the same time I also try to turn it around by thinking how can I make this better? How do I want it to be? It helps tons! :-)
