LOA, intuition, gene memory or what?
So, a few weeks ago my husband took the Ancestry.com DNA test and found out that he has 13% British DNA and 2%Scandinavian. He was suddenly so obsessed that he must have viking DNA. I was more like pfffft, sure your great great grandma had a nookie with some Swedish farmer, but fat chance you descend from some big viking warrior.
Apparently Ancestry connects you automatically to other people who your DNA matches with that have taken the test and a couple days ago I got an email from one of his matches, an old lady whose grandmother was a sister of my husband's great grandmother. We started talking and when I told her I was Estonian, she goes "Oh your husband has some Northern Baltic ancestors too, actually he is a direct descendant of Rollo the Viking
I hadn't even told her about him wanting to be related to any viking at all, but the fact that he is not only somehow related to one of the most famous vikings of all time, but turns out Rollo the Viking is his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather (literally because it took me hours, but I finally managed to write down every person in his direct line to my husband and every 'great' is carefully counted.)
No wonder he was so glued to the screen when he was watching The Vikings tv series lol. Rollo is the one on the left, in case you haven't seen the series.
This lady had dedicated 15 years to genealogy and researching the family tree in every possible direction for over 1000 years back. Not only that, but she had it so well documented and proved. Even tiny funny facts like for example apparently a 16 year old George Washington once surveyed the land of one of my husband's ancestors and she has all the signed documents for that.
I just couldn't believe our luck, because in no way ever in the world would've we ever been able to discover even a microscopic part of it ourselves. She had literally spent thousands of hours just typing it in, the tree was so vast that I looked through it for hours and hours and still found new nooks and crannies I hadn't seen yet. His British royal pedigree was all earls, sirs and ladies. William the Conqueror was also his great-great-and so on- grandfather, so queen is a distant cousin and I saw some Mary the Scot and some Duncan Scottish kings names into one of the greatgreatetc-grandmother's side, so Posay you are probably a distant cousin and basically it's your duty to come here and babysit your 23rd degree niece and nephew
I know it may be pretty probable that many people have some royal ancestors (except when you are lunareclipse, then you are just a common mutt. I have done my own family tree down to 1400s but absolutely nothing interesting there), in fact he doesn't even care of any of the fancy ones at all, but he does care for the Rollo link and that's what leads me to my question lol (sorry for getting overly excited and dragging it on for so long)- Do you think it was LOA since we were intently talking about it recently, some intuition esp or whatnot part or genealogical memory?

Oh that is so exciting Lunar! You have nooo idea how exciting, I love history and I'm especially fond of the Vikings (because my mum has always been convinced my dad has Viking blood and I think she's probably right - though we haven't researched it - hence my Scandinavian name). Oh and I'm fond of Scottish people too btw , I have one especially good Scottish friend (hint: you guys know her ) and then there is
I mean....I mean......
*is distracted*
Where was I.
Ohhhh your husband has such incredible ancestors! You chose well I'm sure your ancestors are cool too, not having kings or Rollos in there doesn't mean they're not cool. I often love daydreaming about how in every era of history there were people who were my direct ancestors, makes me so happy. I just wish we had a time machine to visit them....
As to your actual question, I would say it could be a combination of gene memory and intuition...and possibly some sort of synchronicity?

I just think your like some magical wish granting Genie Lunar, you always seem to manifest what everyone else wishes for hehe
But seriously, what an awesome ancestry to have!
I'm sure me and Posay wont hold any grudges against your English Hubby when we come invade your house.
Perhaps we can surrender a small castle or something hehe
Yep the answer is.. You're a Genie!

Re: LOA, intuition, gene memory or what?
Hehe thanks Freya Actually he had some ancestors there with the same last name as yours, so maybe you are distant relatives in any way you and posay both qualify for babysitting duty
I have to send you the direct lineage, if you like history you'll probably enjoy it, these names don't say much to me.
I might very well have viking ancestors too, the island I come from has some of the richest viking treasures ever found. In fact our neighbor started to dig a hole for a greenhouse and found a whole pot full of silver coins and my grandma comes from a seaside village that served as an important port for vikings.
So it's fun to think we may be distantly related. I call him my viking prince now
Although it's unfair he gets so many cool relatives,
He's even related to the early Percy barons that built the Alnwick castle that is used in Harry Potter movies as Hogwarts
Another cool thing about it was that she shared with me a recipe for beef stew that has been in the family at least since his great-great-great grandmother, maybe even longer, can't wait to try it
----------
And yes Nighty, I am a magic genie, you don't even need to rub me, I grant your wishes regardless

Wow! First you try to lure me into babysitting by sending an influx of enticing photographs of beaches and sunshine, then you go to these lengths just to get me over there to babysit? I've got my eye on your luney
I do think it was LOA though, isn't everything? and such a cool story at that!! Your husband sounds like quite the character from what you've told me so far haha, I love hearing all the random things he gets up to. This lady you found sounds quite the character too, I can see the appeal of looking into a family tree like that and finding out as much history as possible and how cool that she can share it with you the internet is an amazing place. You need to let us know how you get on with the beef stew recipe, maybe you could give it to NE and she can invite me over for dinner
Also, this kind of reminds me of when my uncle came to visit recently and dropped a "bomb" that apparently he and I (being the only two left on my dads side of the family) were actually related to the person who invented Jacobs cream crackers(!!!). Now I know it's not royalty or anywhere near as cool as your story but trust me to be related (apparently) to someone who invented those biscuits I say apparently because I haven't bothered looking into it, I'm really that lazy haha.

That's exactly why I believe no one should get married.
We're gonna keep fucking our own relatives, at the end of the day lol.
And here in India, we have "castes" for fucks sake!
Interesting story!
Did you know that Ancersty.com is using one of the panels developed in the project I am working on?

So you suggest we just practice celibacy? Doesn't matter if you get married or not, you can fuck one way or another lol.Adi wrote:That's exactly why I believe no one should get married.

I hope your program improves Ancestry,I find it one of the most frustrating websites I have ever used ughh
and that is so cool LMS
Well, who knows, some people say souls reincarnate into same family line over the time, such as my son could have my great- grandfather's soul, so perhaps we were already married back then, he was Rollo and I was his spoiled brat wife Poppa
