The Tao of Courage
I found this post on Julie's website and loved it so much I had to share it here right now!
http://julietdickinson.com/the-tao-of-courage/
I like to think of myself as someone who lives courageously most of the time - but I do have some fears that I sometimes can't beat. For example, being home alone these last two days I've had people at the door twice and every time I've been scared to death that it's burglars or people from the marijuana plantation that's apparently found in the next street down.
We live in quite an isolated place and have a really long driveway, even at Halloween these days kids don't come to trick-or-treat, we barely ever get visitors of any kind, even Jehovah's Witnesses... and just now that I'm home alone there's been a knock on the door and then these sounds like they were trying to break in, and today again no knock but some very loud sounds at the front door....
There are other examples too, where my fear has stopped me living my dream. My problem has been that I sometimes get into a state of paralysing anxiety, so it feels like doing what I fear is literally impossible... and maybe it is, given that these things are psychosomatic.
I truly love this thing of living courageously, or even, as Osho puts it, dangerously. Sometimes I go in the other extreme though and do completely foolhardy things that get me into trouble.

Re: The Tao of Courage
The first day, it was our next door neighbour (found out today ehem) come to bring us some fresh eggs from their chickens and invite us to a Christmas lunch.
The second day... no idea. Could have been an actual intruder, but they didn't do anything... must have been scared of the fact I was blasting out Beethoven at top volume lol.
And yes, I still heard the noises, I was in a different room to the music and have very good ears. So I don't know what it was, but I was scared stiff.
Learn me some karate! Or kendo! Or...something...

Re: The Tao of Courage
“Those who are courageous, go headlong. They search all opportunities of danger. Their life philosophy is not that of insurance companies. Their life philosophy is that of a mountain climber, a glider, a surfer. And not only in the outside seas they surf; they surf in their innermost seas. And not only on the outside they climb Alps and Himalayas; they seek inner peaks. But remember one thing: never forget the art of risking— never, never. Always remain capable of risking. Wherever you can find an opportunity to risk, never miss it, and you will never be a loser. Risk is the only guarantee for being truly alive.”
