Book thread!
I had a quick browse and couldn't see a book thread, I hope I haven't missed it!
I'm a huge book worm and am always looking for book recommendations. I thought it was be nice to have a thread where we can recommend books and ask opinions on ones we are considering buying. I decided to put it in this section so we could recommend both LOA and non-LOA books.
I read The Secret a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I then ended up buying Ask and It Is Given and man am I struggling with this one. I found the beginning where she discusses being Abraham a bit pretentious (please don't hate me just my opinion). Is it worth powering through?
I've always been curious about The Alchemist. And then Freya I think it was, posted a quote from it recently which reminded me. Anyone read it, any good?
My mum bought me Chicken Soup for the Soul for my birthday recently. I remember my religion teacher used to recommend it to us in high school, and I never paid any attention. But I really like it. It's really popular but if you haven't heard of it, it's basically a book of short stories submitted to the editors, some are like a page, so it's nice for a quick read when you want to boost your mood. Its purpose is to 'open the heart and rekindle the spirit'. I think they have loads of editions now, but mine has a mix of topics such as parenting, love, self love, learning, overcoming obstacles etc.

Re: Book thread!
Haha, we were just talking about starting a book club here, but never got around to doing it
I used to love reading books, now with kids I don't have the time plus if I took an actual book they'd be climbing on top of me ripping the pages out.
I loved Ask and it is given. The second part of the book is all practical exercises, so at least that part is worth going through if you don't feel like reading the rest.
I read The Secret book after watching the movie and it was kinda meh.. it was a repetition of the movie, except movie was better.
The Celestine Prophecy is good

Re: Book thread!
The Secret was my first glimpse of Loa, and to be honest i know people rubbish it a bit but i just watched it then read it and came away feeling amazing, with a new found perspective, even if i have later learnt it goes deeper, it'll always be dear to me as it was my first step on my new journey.
i second Luney with the Celestine Prophecy i really would recommend people to give it a whirl, its fantastic!
but i havent read much else, i did read Eckhart Tolles 'The Power of Now' very insightful but i found it a bit heavy going.
p.s dont worry the book club will be up and about soon hopefully and it wont interfere with this thread

I've never read any of his books, but I've been meaning to buy the one he wrote about JFK's assassination.

After reading your post I went back to it and read the end bit that you mentioned. I much preferred that part to the beginning. I particularly liked technique number 3 I think it was, where you write what you want and then also write why you want it and how you'd feel once it manifested. I also liked the idea of the pivot method, I think that will definitely come in handy.
I really liked The Secret. I haven't seen the film, though. The book was the first thing I read to do with LOA, too, and I liked how it was really easy to read and put quite simply for me as a beginner.Night Eyes wrote:The Secret was my first glimpse of Loa, and to be honest i know people rubbish it a bit but i just watched it then read it and came away feeling amazing, with a new found perspective, even if i have later learnt it goes deeper, it'll always be dear to me as it was my first step on my new journey.

Also, don't worry about interference, I'm happy for a book club to take its place! Excited to see the book club
Some non-fiction I've currently read are the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. Loved the first one, feel a bit meh about the second and third. Just started on A Handmaid's Tale but too early to know what I think yet

Re: Book thread!
This is so funny, I was just thinking yesterday how it would be great to start a thread about our favourite books. Ah the synchronicities of this place...
I adore The Alchemist, Lilac. A friend gave it to me for my 18th birthday - it's a simple parable about following your dream. Wonderful messages in there.
There are many, many books I'd love to talk about with you guys, I've always been a bookworm too though recently I've just not had the time for fiction. I haven't had much time for spiritual non-fiction either, but sometimes I feel I really need it for my soul so...
Oh this is so exciting!

Re: Book thread!
My all time favourite books are The Farseer Trilogy and Tawny Man Trilogy by Robin Hobb, just so beautiful i simply adore them, and Night Eyes is the name of one of the Characters.
Lilac its fine the threads will work side by side actually, this can be for all our favourite books, the club one was going to be where we all choose books and read them together

Aww yay awesome about the second part of Ask and it is given, Lilac You should watch The Secret movie too!!
I've only seen the movie, but for some reason my brain automatically read "Stephen King's Information Technology is the best book I've ever read" and thought - ughh great, I bet THAT was a really interesting read

Re: Book thread!
The book is better than the movie and there's definitely some LoA themes to it as well.

Re: Book thread!
This is too funny, I was thinking of doing a "book review" thread too! Thanks for getting it started Lilac!
I don't have a ton of time to actually read but I listen to a ton of audio books and I'm actually listening to the second part of "Ask and it is Given" right now. (Which is what got me thinking of starting a book thread...) I started reading the first part but never finished it. I honestly don't think you have to read it if you have a basic idea of how LOA works. I'm not even a huge Abe fan but I do like the second part, which I think has some really practical and easy ideas in it for changing your energy. I think it's sometimes helpful to have some processes to turn to other than "just visualize" to make LOA work for us.
I just listened to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy recently too! I really enjoyed them. It was all a little far fetched at times but still good. I watched the American movie based on the first book and didn't think it was that great. I wasn't paying super close attention but I thought it didn't capture the book all that well. I have the Swedish movies in my Netflix queue and I supposed I'll get around to watching them at some point.

Re: Book thread!
The swedish movies of the girl with the dragon tattoo are really Nice kazoo! I havent watched the American movies, but the Swedish version is cool. It's like I can almost understand what they are saying in Swedish bc it sounds a bit Dutch but then again not lol.
I have read the alchemist. It's a cute story and I love how he is just moving forward following wherever his heart takes him.
I have also read ask and it's given. I think it was the second loa I have read after the secret. I have read so many books I can't remember them all. I do remember I struggled in the beginning but it got better after a while. Def liked the assignment part. The thing with loa is that you should just get started to get the hang of being a deliberate creator.
Eckhart's Tolle the power of now was a serious struggle for me. Didn't finish it. Well I can go on and on and on about books. Liked the power of the subconscious mind!
Anyone read Harry Potter lol

I found the third one difficult to get through. I did really like the first book, though. I liked the American film when I first saw it, but that was before I read the book and the film was nowhere near as detailed - always the case I suppose.

Re: Book thread!
Saw this today
Oh and I started to read Power of subconscious mind, but it was so boring I stopped half way
I don't like the books where it just goes on and on example after example how some Mrs Smith somewhere used her subconscious mind to get the perfect job offer or whatnot and all I'm thinking is "That's good for her, but now tell me how to do it!?".

Nothing will ever beat the excitement on the day of a new Harry Potter release!
Oooh I might do that reading challenge, Lunar! Although I also need to force myself to read the many books that I have bought and haven't gotten round to reading. I find that recently I don't make as much time for reading as I would like to.
