Vulnerability

Post by President Roosevelt on Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:42 am

This is an interesting video. Some notes:

Courage is to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart. In other words, courage means to be who you are with your whole heart.

What makes you vulnerable can also make you awesome.

We think being vulnerable is about sadness, pain, loss, fear, unworthiness, etc. But it's really the seed for acceptance and joy.

People who feel worthy of love have three things in common:
1) They have the courage to be who they are.
2)They have the compassion to be kind to themselves and others.
3) They connect to others through their authenticity.

If we can see vulnerability as something good for us, we may find more strength from our own self-acceptance to go after what we want with the will-power to make life better, in spite of fears of disappointment and loss.

I think this is so important - self-acceptance and knowing your own value and worth thumbs2
Vulnerability isn't weakness.

"If we can see vulnerability as something good for us, we may find more strength from our own self-acceptance to go after what we want with the will-power to make life better" - I'm going to write that down, lol. Very Happy

Re: Vulnerability

Post by Guest on Sun Aug 09, 2015 6:11 am

I wanted to write about hurt, and here I find a post that already addresses the issue of openness. I was drawn here magically... vulnerability I need! Thank you, Monsieur President.

I'd like to say that I think the scary other side of vulnerability, the one we want to avoid -- the pain -- is perhaps not as terrible as we think it is - if we can be fearless enough to embrace it.

I think it's important that we have the courage to connect to others authentically. I struggle with this - I constantly have to remind myself not to put on armour,

to be forgiving of those who have hurt me,

to love (or at least like   Very Happy  ) openly and leave past hurts behind.

Just last night I was listening to this Krishnamurti talk on not recording hurts...I need to work on this, I have such a long tally of "how this person has hurt me" that even though I want to be forgiving and vulnerable I just "put up walls" as he says.

Actually, he says we should aim to never even get hurt in the first place --

"Now, is it possible not to be hurt at all? Because the consequences of being hurt are the building of a wall around oneself, withdrawing in one’s relationship with others in order not to be hurt more. In that there is fear and a gradual isolation. Now, we are asking: Is it possible not only to be free of past hurts but also never to be hurt again?"

It takes courage to leave things behind, especially those things we feel define us; but in the end, if we stop thinking about the pain we've suffered - the pain is gone, and forgiveness and vulnerability become possible.

It's those who are able to accept that pain and disppointment are inevitable in life that are also the most open to joy, peace, and contentment.
It's my personal goal to become one of those strong, vulnerable people.

I've been thinking about this.

Vulnerability is strength.

Because if you allow yourself to feel vulnerable, you've already won. Half the battle is fighting the potential pain. But if you embrace the pain tenderly, it can no longer conquer you. If you allow it to just be there... it can do nothing bad to you. It will be devastating, crushing, it will hurt, but if you let it, if you are open to it, you have taken away the sting.

If you no longer resist the pain, the pain cannot harm you. And that is the secret.

With all the 'fearlessness' posts recently, I take it that the dreaded email is sent? ...cough.... Wink

Lol no, I've had some even scarier things to attend to and new family problems... that particular application is in the air, but at least I finally finished writing it all up, just want it more polished than my previous recent submissions. Razz
