Hey everyone I love you

How do you strengthen your intuition? My gut feelings aren't always strong enough when having to make decisions and I end up stuck in a limbo of not knowing what to do. I think for certain things concious reasoning is the best method, but I don't think everything can be decided in a 'pros vs cons' way.

Sometimes I have gut feelings that I dismiss because they don't feel enough to prove something/I don't have enough faith in them, and then later on I realise it was right all along. I really want to work on this.

it took me years to hone my gut instinct.... i just didnt trust it, i'm not sure when the change happened i dont know if it happened when my confidence and my trust in myself started to grow, but i just started listening to me.... instrad of other people... and now i seem to get it right 9 times out of 10.

i think it ties in with the whole go within idea.... trust yourself.

I think intuition can be incredibly powerful. Personally though I'm not sure if what feels like intuition always is intuition - though I'm not sure what it is in those cases. For example, sometimes I will get a voice in my head telling me what (not) to do. Or I will get an urge to do something, really strong - that is probably more impulse than intuition.

And then there is fear. Sometimes my gut gets all knotted up and I'm literally getting gut feelings but they're not the right kind. Despite that, it doesn't mean that I shouldn't do what I'm scared of doing. In fact Osho says we should make a habit of doing the opposite of what fear tells us - not always wise of course (e.g. if there's a jaguar in Costa Rica and your instinct is to carefully back away, I think you shouldn't do the opposite and go up to it and stroke its chin - "heyyy kitty kitty kitty!").

I'm with you on the "sometimes just reasoning things out" mentality (while ignoring one's gut). I do it all the time as I can be an extremely cautious person. tongue But intuition does tend to be right if you know what it is. Your subconscious mind takes in everything and is much wiser than any reasoning-out thought processes. How to hone that? I guess we need to practise listening to - and for - the gut feelings. Which surely means being all the more mindful in everyday situations, observing your own mind and how your body feels.

Thanks for your input ladies Very Happy I'm definitely with you on not approaching the jaguar Freya Razz

I found an article online (here), and I quite liked this:

"6. Test your hunches.

Got a feeling which horse will win at the track? Getting a sense that it will rain tomorrow even though the weather forecast says it won't? Do you just know your best friend's new guy is bad news? If you have feelings about what might happen in the future, write down your hunches, then check them later. See how often you were right."

Because sometimes when making a tricky decision, I do have a gut feeling of which way to go, but I don't have much confidence in it being correct. However, those little things in the example allow you to build confidence in your intuition without the risk of accidentally making a huge wrong decision. And then hopefully after a while it makes it easier to recognise and trust in.
