ok, so this is something that I have been trying to work on for a while but has been made more prevalent today
Say you have spent your life being a pessimist, or overthinking, or having negative thoughts, say this is worse at certain times of the year or reliant on hormones....
How do you retrain your brain to think happy thoughts, to not let the niggling doubts take hold, to not get eaten up especially when they are down to external forces, other peoples opinions/ actions, hormones etc etc etc
Everyone comes across it, just some find it easier to bat them off more than others
How do you reprogram your mind to think more positive (to not start thinking who else is he talking too, what if I forget all the answers, what if he doesn't like me, why don't I have any money, and all the other doubts that creep in to all of our minds)
People say it can be done......my question is how
I think its not just me that could benefit from constructive answers here

ok so this is just my opinion, so i'm not saying its right
but firstly, i would telling myself.. sometimes its ok to feel like rubbish or feel crappy, it happens, its natural, we cant be flying with unicorns and farting glitter all day every day! so give yourself a break and show yourself a bit of love and tlc
if i ever enter the land of 'what if' i just stop and say 'what if what if what if! and then flip it around and starting asking myself well what if all the nice stuff happened!
find reasons every day to be positive, stop looking for whats going wrong, and acknowledge whats going right
you got up
you're breathing
a nice breakfast
the love of friends and family
etc
i know a lot of people dont like the secret.. but Gratitude is a good thing

Putting the above into practice, however, can be difficult. And I think maybe what we - some of us - need is the so-called "subconscious (re)programming"... but easy ways to do that?
Or should we not look for easy ways?
Affirmations? As Chodron rightly points out, they are helpful - certainly - but for some of us there's always going to be a voice inside our heads saying, "yeah right". How do we access that subconscious and change it when there are so many layers of past hurt, unhappiness, dissatisfaction... basically dukkha in every possible form...
