Re: Shiny, pretty, happy things
Thank you Lunar for your most beautiful post and for the effort and time you put in this lovely piece. I used to send "collective" posts and I know how much effort and time it really takes to put one together like this. Probably more than most people imagine. So I'm truly grateful for this post and especially for these lovely songs you chose for me. But with me you shouldn't have spent much time; I love everything beautiful. Besides, of all people you're the one, I assume, who knows how I love Clapton and the blues in general. (I remember I once told you this and even sent you one of his songs). Anyway, I again thank you and please excuse me for this late comment. Have a beautiful day, sweet friend.

Hahahahaa this is so sweet, lunar. I hadn't read this thread until now. You took the time to do this for us members. I love mine- thank you very much. I love oldies I don't know if my "real-life" friends have ever done anything quite like this.

Re: Shiny, pretty, happy things
So, I've finally finished Selina's Sunday Song Dedications, which...unfortunately aren't completely finished after all, but the list will grow if you watch this space.
I had a hard time doing this, because I'm one of those tricky people: I only listen to classical music, the closest I get to listening to something popular is when I listen to Edith Piaf's chansons. So I really can't dedicate something I don't know...
...and it means that people are stuck with songs they maybe won't love as ecstatically as I do.
But I *hope* you'll like them, too!
So voila, the Edith Piaf collection, specially chosen songs for the most active members, in alphabetical order, with English translations where necessary.
Adam
To you I dedicate my most recent favourite Piaf song, "Milord", which I enjoy playing over and over and over...
Lyrics
(chorus)
Come along, Milord!
Sit at my table;
It is so cold, outside,
Here it's comfortable.
Relax, Milord
And make yourself at ease,
Your troubles on my heart
And your feet on a chair
I know you, Milord,
You've never seen me,
I'm just a girl from the docks,
Just a shadow of the street...
Yet, I crossed you,
While you were passing yesterday,
You were so proud,
God! The sky made you perfect:
Your silk scarf
Floating on your shoulders,
You were so beautiful
You could have been mistaken for the king...
You were walking victoriously
A woman on your arm,
My God! ... How beautiful she was...
It makes my blood run cold...
(chorus)
Sometimes it's just enough
For there to be a boat
To make everything fall apart
When the boat leaves...
It brought away with it
The sweet girl with the tender eyes
Who didn't understand
She was ruining your life
Love, makes one cry
And life
Gives you all your chances
To take them back afterwards...
Come along, Milord!
You look like a kid!
Relax, Milord,
Come into my kingdom:
I heal remorse,
I sing romance,
I sing about milords,
who are unlucky!
Look at me, Milord,
You've never seen me before...
...But...You're crying, Milord?
That...I would never have believed it!...
Ah, well, there there, Milord!
Smile at me, Milord!
...Better than that! A bit of effort...
There we are!
Come along, laugh, Milord!
Come along, sing, Milord!
La-la-la...
Yes, dance, Milord!
La-la-la... Bravo Milord!
La-la-la... Encore Milord! ... La-la-la...

Padam, Padam
This tune which haunts me day and night
This tune wasn't written today
It comes from as far away as I come
Trawled around by a hundred thousand musicains
One day this tune will drive me mad
A hundred times I've wanted to say why
But it's interrupted me
It always speaks before i do
And its voice drowns out my voice
Padam...padam...padam
It comes running up behind me
Padam...padam...padam
It plays me the trick of: do you remember
C'est un air qui me montre du doigt
Et je traîne après moi comme un drole d'erreur
Cet air qui sait tout par cœur
It says: "Remember your loves
Remember cos it's your turn
There's no reason why you shouldn't cry
Encumbered with your memories
"And me, I see again those who remain
My 20 years make the drum beat
I see the succession of gestures flash by
All the comedy of love
To this tune which just keeps playing
Des "je t'aime" de quatorze-juillet
Padam...padam...padam...
The 'always's which we buy on the cheap
Des "veux-tu" en voilà par paquets
Et tout ca pour tomber juste au coin d'la rue
Sur l'air qui m'a reconnue
...
Listen to the commotion which it causes me
Comme si tout mon passé défilait
...
You need to keep some sorrow for later
I've got scores full in this tune which beats.
Which beats like a wooden heart

Night Eyes
Hymne a l'amour, English version - "If you love me, really love me"
posay
La foule
I see the city in celebration and delirious
Suffocating under the sun and in the joy
And I hear in the music screams, laughs
Bursting bounce around me
And lost among the people who upset me
Stunned, helpless, I am still here
When suddenly I am back, he fell,
And the crowd just throw me in his arms.
Carried by the crowd behind us
Us
Crushed against one another
We do one body
And flow effortlessly
Us, chained either
And leaves us both
Happy, drunk and happy.
Carried by the crowd that rushes
And dancing a mad dance
Both hands are welded
And sometimes raised
Both arms fly body
And both fall
Happy, drunk and happy
And joy splashed by her smile
Redounds and pierces me in my
But I suddenly cries out in laughter
When the crowd comes to pull in my arms
Carried by the crowd behind us
We us away from one another
I struggle and I discussion
But his voice
Choking in the laughter of the other
And I cry out of pain, fury and rage
And I cry
Driven by the crowd that rushes
And dancing a mad dance
I am swept away
And I Crispe my fists, cursing the crowd that I steal
The man she had given me
And I never found

L'homme a la moto
Lyrics
He wore jeans and motorcycle boots
A black leather jacket with an eagle on the back
His bike took off like a cannon shot
Sowing terror in the whole neighborhood
He never combed his hair, never washed
He had grease under his nails
But a blue heart tattooed on a bicep
Read “I Love Mom” in it
He had a girlfriend named Marylou
Who everyone pitied, a child of her time
Because everyone knew well that he loved
his bitch of a bike more than anything else
He wore jeans and motorcycle boots
A black leather jacket with an eagle on the back
His bike took off like a cannon shot
Sowing terror in the whole neighborhood
Poor Marylou begged and pleaded
“Don’t go out tonight, I’ll cry if you go …”
But her words were lost, and also her tears
In the noise of the engine and exhaust
He took off like the devil with fire in his eyes
At the RR crossing, it was like a bolt of fire
Into a speeding locomotive
And when they sorted the debris …
The found his jeans and motorcycle boots
His black leather jacket with an eagle on the back
But nothing of the bike and nothing of the devil
Who sowed terror in the whole neighborhood …

Oh lunar, I wish I were in London in November! I'm going home
Just some quick dedications for people I've interacted with on here these last few days:

For Night:
My goodness, I don't know if I should even tell you this but in this photo he looks almost exactly like my old IT teacher... amazing, smart guy that was, funny, with lovely dimples...and long hair...
Not so much in this one, from this angle. But when he smiles...!! He could totally be Chris.

For President:
I googled "gangster thank you" but didn't come up with any good gifs. So instead, here's a Yahoo answer on How To Say Thank You in Gangster.
How do you say "thank you" in gangster?
Lol i know it sounds kinda strange but when i talk gangster to friends (jokingly) and say someone gives me something and i want to say thanks in the gangster language. How would i do so? I really have no idea about how gangsters say thankyou. Other than "i guess i dont have to shoot you" lol...
Answer:
"Good looking out!" or "Good lookin!"
"Mafia!"
"That's good business!"
"That's what's up!"
"Fa sho!"
So... for your little Al Pacino check-in: That's good business!

Thank you, President. *curtseys* Here's some Michelle Pfeiffer for you in return:
Night just recommended Frankie and Johnny to me in a PM literally two minutes before you put up that video! It's lovely I'll have to check out the whole movie.
To be honest it hurts me a little to see the Flower Duet paired with a person with bloody hands swearing, just as - I cannot - watch A Clockwork Orange because - well I just can't -- to me it's murder -- pairing Beethoven and Rossini with -- .....
I do love the Flower Duet, though!
And yes, gangster is not my thing as you know, President! Unless it's gangsters in Some Like It Hot:
(Is that also Al Pacino in that Godfather clip?...because I think I remember he was in it...and also Robert DeNiro??...I've always got them a bit mixed up, I think they look so similar whatever the case, good-looking guys!!)
